If you’re someone who loves getting out on the water and trying new activities during your holidays, paddle boarding in Javea might just become one of new favourite things to do in Javea. Javea offers some of the most stunning conditions for stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) in Spain.

I’ve put together everything you need to know about paddle boarding in Javea, from the best spots to try it out to what to expect on your first time out on the water.
Why Javea is perfect for paddle boarding
The waters around Javea are incredibly calm and clear, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced paddle boarders – below you can see the Javea port beach on a calm morning! The sea here stays relatively warm throughout most of the year, and the sheltered bays mean you won’t be battling choppy waters while you’re finding your balance.

It’s one of those activities where the scenery is just as rewarding as the exercise!
Here are my recommended paddle board experiences in Javea – I’ve added a sunset paddle board tour, as well as a sunrise tour for early risers. Both experiences are designed to cater to all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced paddle boarders. The professional guides are certified and local, meaning they know the waters inside and out and can ensure you have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.

There’s something truly magical about being out on the water as the sun comes up. The morning light hitting the cliffs around Javea creates the most incredible colours, and the water is usually at its calmest first thing in the morning.
Sunrise tours typically start around 7am (depending on the season) and last about 2-3 hours. You’ll get to watch the world wake up from your paddle board, which is an experience I’d highly recommend. The temperatures are lovely and cool in the morning too, perfect before the day heats up.

Best time for paddle boarding in Javea
Javea paddle boarding is available from April through October, with the best conditions typically being:
- May and June: Perfect weather without the intense summer heat, calm waters, and excellent visibility for snorkelling.
- July and August: Warmest weather in Javea and longest days, though you’ll want to book the sunrise tour to avoid the midday heat.
- September and early October: Still beautifully warm with perfect water temperatures, but fewer crowds and more peaceful conditions.
The sunrise tours are particularly popular during the peak summer months as they allow you to enjoy the water before the day gets too hot, while sunset tours are magical year-round.
Paddle boarding spots around Javea
Arenal Beach area
This is where most tours start from, as it’s easily accessible and the waters are generally calm. You’ll paddle out towards the Portitxol area, which has some lovely hidden coves and great snorkelling spots.

Cap de la Nao
The more adventurous tours head towards Cap de la Nao, where you can paddle into sea caves and around dramatic rock formations. The water here is incredibly clear, perfect for spotting fish while you’re paddling.
Granadella Beach
Some tours take you towards this area, which is famous for having some of the clearest water on the Costa Blanca. It’s slightly more challenging to paddle here due to the rocky coastline, but the views are worth it.
