1. Play a game of Padel

Padel is a huge sport in Spain, being the second most popular sport behind football! You’re in luck, as Javea is now home to a few padel centres.

In the summer hours, padel is best played in the morning or the later evening when the afternoon heat has worn off. I recommend starting before the blitzing hot weather kicks in – from 8am to 10am is usually the coolest time. Otherwise, opt for a session in the later evening or even the night – the courts are lit up until close.

There are a number of spots to play Padel in Javea.

Padel 24 L’Ancora

Padel courts are available at Paris24 Padel in the Arenal area of Javea, a short walk from the beach. You can book padel courts directly on their site and play for a minimum of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Club de Tenis

There are also 4 padel courts available at Club De Tenis, which is also based in the Arenal. The club have tennis courts, as well as a squash court you can book.

Paddle courts are rentable for 1 hour when 2 people play, and for 1.5 hours when 4 people are playing.

2. Visit one of the many beaches

I have no doubt visiting the beaches in Javea is somewhere near the top of your list! There are so many beaches in Javea to choose from. There is the Arenal beach, Platja de Las Gravas in the port, Cala Blanca, Granadella, and many more.

The most popular beach is the Arenal beach, as it is a huge sandy beach based in the heart of Javea, surrounded by bars and restaurants.

It’s an ideal beach for families as its the only sandy beach in the area, and the waters are very shallow, making it a safer option compared to the other rocky beaches. There are also climbing areas for children on the beach as well as volleyball nets which makes for a super fun day out.

I personally like the quieter spot of Cala Blanca, and I recommend it for groups of friends. The beach is not for everyone, due to being a rocky beach and a bit further away from the Arenal, but I highly rate it for the beautiful views and quietness, as well as being one of my favourite places to snorkel.

In my experience, the best time to visit any of the beaches during the summer is the early evening, just as the sun is beginning to set. The air is much cooler and makes for a wonderful early evening swim.

I also recommend taking some drinks such as cans of soft drinks or beers and watching the sunset. I promise you it’ll be one of your most cherished memories of Javea, and you’ll want to do it every evening!

3. Go on a Kayaking Excursion

Of the best things to do in Javea is to go on a kayak tour of the Javea coast.

I highly recommend booking with a lovely family-run company called Siesta Advisor, a family-owned business with over a decade of experience in delivering exceptional outdoor excursions in Javea for over ten years. They have an exceptional track record of delighted customers throughout all their years of running!

They specialise in kayaking excursions all over Javea, with experienced kayaking monitors.

They have tours available including:

Even if you’ve never kayaked before, they will be able to teach you all the basics of kayaking and help you master it during the tour!

4. Explore Javea by Boat

An amazing thing to do for a big group or family is to rent a boat and see Javea by sea – we’ve written a full guide on renting a boat in Javea.

You’ll get full sea access and can see Javea’s hidden gems such as the Isla Portixol, and Granadella. Javea sunsets are also best viewed by boat!

If you’re less excited about driving a boat but want the experience, there’s plenty of boating and catamaran experiences in Javea which even include lunches, or drinks by sunset.

I’ve listed a couple of fantastic experiences which are available through Get A Guide (included in links below):

5. Visit the Javea Markets

Javea’s markets offer an authentic taste of traditional Spanish culture and lifestyle.

There are several markets you can visit in Javea throughout the week, some running every day and some running certain days a week:

  • Javea market is held every Thursday in the square “Plaza de la Constitución” in the Javea Old Town. It features a wide range of stalls selling fresh produce, clothing, ornaments, tapestry, leather goods, and more.
  • Javea Municipal Market is an indoor food market that takes place every day at the Plaza Celestino Pons.
  • Market Del Riurau, a farmer’s market offering fresh, local produce which runs every Sunday in Jesús Pobre, a 15-minute drive from Javea.

6. Go on a boat trip

There are plenty of boat trips that make for a memorable, fun day out for the whole group and works out to be far more cost effective than hiring a boat. I’ve written up a guide about my top recommended boat trips in Javea for more information.

If you’re staying in Javea for more than a week, I recommend taking a day trip to visit Denia, a town which sits on the other side of the Montgo mountain. There’s plenty to do in Denia, from visiting the local Marina el Portet, seeing the Denia Castle, and exploring the town’s bars and restaurants. I highly recommend visiting Plaza San Antonio for happy hour cocktails!

The way to get to Denia is one of my favourite things to do in Javea! There is a fantastic ferry service available from Javea Port which takes you directly to Denia Port which takes about an hour.

Leaving Javea Port on the Denia Ferry!

It’s one of my favourite things to do with friends, as you’ll get to see cliffs of the Cape San Antonio by boat, while getting an epic tan. You can find tickets in the link below:

7. Yoga on the beach

There are group yoga sessions and private yoga sessions in Javea on various beaches, with the most stunning beach views. Most classes are suited for all levels and preferences.

My recommended classes include Soul & Sea Javea, run by Kate Moss who runs sessions in The Beach House Javea, as well as Cala Blanca beach. I also recommend Francesca Stutely who runs daily yoga classes at Monsoon Thai restaurant.

8. Hike the local mountains

Javea is surrounded by mountains, the most notable being the Elephant-shaped Montgo mountain that overlooks the entire of Javea. It’s an amazing mountain to climb with many routes to the top, or the ‘eye’ being the cave.

There’s an excellent in depth guide you can read to hiking Montgo mountain here.

There are routes available on the AllTrails app which I highly recommend downloading and seeing the routes for Montgo Nature Park.

Cueva Del Montgo

The below route is for experienced climbers as it is very steep, and there are some areas where you’ll need to scramble.

The starting point begins at the PR-CV 355 trail. You’ll travel along a wooded path, and then proceed without shade to the Cueva del Montgó,t is very steep, and there are some areas where it is necessary to scramble

There are other fantastic paths to consider which are outside of Javea – my favourites being Les Cases de Bèrnia (near Benissa) and Peñón de Ifach in Calpe.

Peñón de Ifach in Calpe

An absolute must if you have the time and can travel to Calpe! This was my first ever hike, and I enjoyed every single moment of it. The panoramic views of Calpe are breathtaking throughout the hike, especially when you reach the peak!

See the route below on AllTrails.

Cases de Bèrnia (near Benissa)

Quite a challenging route through the Sierra Del Bernia, but you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of Calpe, Benidorm and Altea throughout. You’ll travel to the top of a rocky ridge, passing through a short natural tunnel to reach a ruined fort from where spectacular views of the Severino and Ovenga peaks.

9. Watch an English blockbuster

If you fancy a change of pace from beaches and hiking mountains, you can always watch an English blockbuster in the cinema in the Javea port.

Cine Jayan is the town’s main cinema and always has a good selection of recently released films, released in English with Spanish subtitles.

The cinema tickets are 6 euros each. Food and drink are available to buy or bring in yourself.

10. Ride the Javea Tourist Train

Locals and tourists have coined this train the ‘Jávea tourist train’. It’s one of the coolest experiences you to try in Jávea!

Javea tourist train tickets cost €4 for adults and €2.50 for children. In the summer, the train operates from June till September. We’ve added the itinerary and timetable to our Javea tourist train article.

11. Play a round of golf

Javea is home to some excellent golf courses and driving ranges in the area and would be an ideal location for a golfing holiday. I highly recommend playing in the spring or autumn time, as the weather will be cooler to play outside.

We’ve written up about some of the golf courses near Javea to give you options to choose from, click any below to read more about them in our guide:

12. Go sculpture spotting in Pinosol Park

Pinosol Park in Jávea is a spacious outdoor area offering two children’s play sections and a vast woodland perfect for picnics and family days out.

It features a large and free parking area, seating, along with a bar and restaurant. It’s an ideal spot for children’s birthday parties or simply to spend a day outdoors with family.

Pinosol was affected by the Granadella fire back in September 2016 which burned around Cumbres del Sol and part of Pinosol park.

Miguel Ángel Miguel García sculpted figures out of burnt trees and logs as he wanted to bring some life back to the park and bring joy to the Javea locals.

It makes for a charming day out to visit the park, and find all of his magnificent sculptures!
