La Platja de la Grava (also known as the Javea port beach) is a pebble beach, and one of the main beaches in Javea and is located within the Javea Port.
La Platja de la Grava is around 300 metres long in size. It’s also a pebble beach. It’s a smaller beach than the Arenal beach, and quieter than the Arenal beach.
This guide will detail everything you need to know about la Platja de La Grava and have a fun, relaxing beach day during your time in Javea. I’ll discuss the best times to visit, and activities you can do during your visit!
Getting to Platja de La Grava
The Javea Port Beach is extremely easy to get to as it’s located in the port just off the main square on Avenida Rey Jaime I. You can park anywhere in the Port, and follow your way to the beach. There are stairs leading down to the beach and from there, you can find any spot to put your things down.
The stair entrance is below on the embed map:
What to do in La Platja de la Grava
During the summer months, there’s usually an inflatable platform in the sea which is a short swim from the beach. You can jump off the platform into the sea, which is lots of fun for the kids.
Its shallow, calm waters make it a great beach for families with small children. The beach has been annually awarded the Blue Flag for Clean Seas of Europe, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy a beach day out.
It is swimmable all year around, depending on the weather and how brave you are to swim in the cold! During the summer months (June to August), the water temperature typically ranges from 22°C to 26°C (71.6°F to 78.8°F). All the way up to late September and early October, I’d say you could still swim comfortably on a sunny day.
What to bring to the Javea Port Beach
Protective footwear
As the port beach is a pebble beach, I recommend bringing protective footwear which you can easily get in one of the bazaars around the area.
Portable deck chair
I highly recommend bringing a portable deck chair to sit on, especially if you’re looking to sunbathe. The rocky beach will create an uneven surface if you’re lying down, and lying on rocks isn’t the most comfortable!
You can rent an umbrella with a deck chair if you haven’t got these, these aren’t free though and will cost up to 25 euros for 2 chairs and an umbrella. Make sure to bring some cash.
Best time to visit Platja de la Grava
In my experience, the best time to visit Platja de la Grava is when the air is cooler, either early in the morning at around 9am or 10am, or later in the day just after 6pm when the sun is beginning to set. You’ll also be able to find parking spots much easier this way, before the town starts to get busy.
As it’s very close to the Port town, during the summer, lots of locals usually enjoy a very early swim in the sea before the temperature heats up. as a relaxing and healthy way to start their day.
